How can you do this?

By having work-life balance of course!

This article will cover what work-life balance is, why it is important, the pros and cons of work-life balance, how to achieve it, as well as 5 tips and reminders.

Sounds like a lot, right?

Well, that’s why this is the Ultimate Guide!

So if you are ready to have 2+ hours EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. to start that side hustle, spend more time with your family, take a nap, or binge watch some tv, let’s get into without any further delay!

What Does Work Life Balance Mean?

When you think of work-life balance, what comes to mind?

You probably think of how it allows you to balance work and your personal life by spending an equal amount of time on each.

This is what most people think.

This thought is why most people aren’t able to attain work-life balance.

That definition of thinking work-life balance is an “equal balance between work and your personal life”, is antiquated and flat out wrong.

To achieve work-life balance, you have to know exactly what is.

The modern definition of work-life balance is “Work-life balance is a feeling of achievement and enjoyment in one’s personal life (family, friends, and personal interests) as well as in one’s work-life”.

Now doesn’t that make more sense?

In a world where the traditional 9 to 5 is almost non-existent, (a lot of us can work remotely from anywhere and we put in a lot of overtime), it’s silly to think that work and our personal life can be equally balanced.

What most definitions of work-life balance lack today is the word feeling!

As long as you feel that you are getting shit done, and enjoying life, then you have work-life balance.

If you are struggling day to day and are fed up with doing the same things EVERY SINGLE DAY then you need work-life balance!

It’s pretty much that simple.

Let’s keep reading to see why work-life balance is so important.

Why is Work Life Balance Important?

Work-life balance is what every person in this world needs to make sure that their physical, mental, and financial health is well taken care of!

For example, having work-life balance is very important because it helps you:

And Best Of All, Live Life to the Fullest

Maintain Your Physical Health

A huge benefit of work-life balance is having fewer health problems (Source).

When you implement work-life balance into your life, point blank, you relieve a lot of stress.

Stress is terrible for your health! Some of the physical effects that stress has on your health are that it can cause (Source):

So, when you are annoyed, agitated, or irritated, every single day, don’t think that stress isn’t doing any harm to your body, because it most certainly is!

A little bit of stress is good but too much, the kind that you experience every single day of your life can wear you down and make you sick, physically (above), and mentally (below).

Maintain Your Mental Health

Having too much stress is bad for your mental health too.

If you are done with your emotions being in control of your life and you want to make a change so that you can control your life instead, then you truly need work-life balance.

Work-life balance helps to improve your mental health by helping to lower the risks of (Source)

Work-life balance allows you to live a life where you wake up happy and ready to take on the day!
It gives you something to look forward to every day!

Now, doesn’t that sound nice?!

Increase Your Productivity

Okay, so not only does work-life balance help you improve your mental health and physical health, but it also increases your productivity.

(By the way, productivity is a fancy word for what I like to call “get shit done with the quickness”.)

Work-life balance helps you to prioritize your life so that you are accomplishing your tasks and goals in the shortest amount of time possible.

This allows you to free up time so that you can do things that you want to do.

So if you been dreaming about becoming your own boss so you no longer have to sit and traffic and swear at dumb drivers, guess what?

Having work-life balance can help you start that business you always wanted.

On the other hand, if you need your sleep, so your mind isn’t all fucked up, guess what? With work-life balance, you can take a nice ass nap every day if you wanted to.

If you have a dream of finally being able to cook duck Gordon Ramsay style, you can take a class that will teach you how because you will have time each day to do what the fuck you want!

Sounds great right?

Stay Motivated

It is hard to stay motivated when your life is nothing like how you wanted it to be.

Sure you have degrees, a great job, and a great family, but you are so close to being burned out!

You are tired of work controlling your life and you can’t seem to get a grip on your personal life.

Having work-life balance keeps you motivated because simply put, you get a lot of shit done.

When you increase your productivity, you become motivated because you have this sense of achievement.

Have you ever had a day when you knocked everything out of the park?

Like, you seriously did not miss a beat?

You got this done and this done and this done. I mean shit that has been on your to-do list for weeks!

How did you feel?

Like you can take on the world, right?

And what did you do?

You kept knocking more shit off your to-do list right! You were on a roll, weren’t you?

You had all this motivation to do stuff because you were so productive.

Now, think if you had a productive day like that every day!

Can you imagine how great you would feel?

That’s exactly what having work-life balance does! It helps to motivate the fuck out of you.

hand floating above water with watch on

Not to be all sappy and in my feelings, because I know you’re in your feelings enough for the both of us, but at the end of the day, one of the biggest reasons why work-life balance is important is because you only have one life to live.

You have to make it a great one!

Something so simple as having work-life balance can help you feel more relaxed and happy about your life.

It will help you to spend time with your family, friends, as well as knocking it out of the park when it comes to working!

If you are ready to make a change in your life so that you can enjoy it, then take a look at this.

Not to toot my own horn, BEEP BEEP, but your girl has a book that is all about work-life balance and how you can achieve it, called Work Life Balance Made Simple.

It teaches you helps you create a personalized system so that you can gain 2+ hours a day to do what the fuck you want!

If you are ready to take the leap and make a change then most definitely get my course on work-life balance right here!

You were made to live this life to the best of your ability. Don’t live it in misery!

Now, that I tooted the fuck out of my own horn, (I mean I have to do some self-promotion. It’s only right.), Let’s get back to this article and learn about some of the pros and cons when it comes to work-life balance.

The Pros and Cons of Work Life Balance

So far so good right! Well, it is about to only get better.  I am going to tell you some more pros, positives, to have work-life balance!

So keep reading!

PROS

Fewer health Problems

So yes, I’m starting with this again I want to get it into your head how you’re living right now is detrimental to your mental and physical health.

When you don’t have work-life balance, you have more stress than you should have and it impacts you tremendously.

Some of the physical and mental health problems that stress causes are (Source):

If you are ready to make a change in your life for the better, then you need work-life balance now more than ever!

Having work-life balance allows you to have a lot less stress which leads to you having a lot fewer health problems.

Helps Prevent Burnout

Life is so fucking hard!

Honestly, I took a deep sigh while admitting that. There’s so much to do and never enough time, right?

I know you are physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted because you like you are unable to meet the constant demands of your life!

It’s all so overwhelming!

When you have work-life balance, you will learn how to be productive and get tasks that need to be done, completed.

You will learn how to make time for yourself so you can do things that you enjoy again.

You will have purpose and motivation because you will have something to look forward to EVERY SINGLE DAY!

Having work-life balance helps to prevent burnout because it gives you the time you need to get shit done and to do things that you actually love to do every day.

I mean if you are doing what you love, how can life ever be miserable?

Save Money

Ha Ha, bet you didn’t think of this one, right? You are probably wondering how in the heck does having work-life balance save money?

Remember how I told you that having work-life balance improves your mental and physical health?

Well, if your mental health and physical health improves, that means fewer doctor appointments you will have to go to.

Fewer doctor appointments mean fewer copays and deductibles you will have to pay for! You won’t have to buy as many prescriptions and over the counter medicines either!

That all equates to you saving money honey!

And if you have no idea what to do with that extra cash, I have an idea or two.

You could spend that money on going to dinner with your friends since you will have more time to do so, or you could save it for a rainy day.

Better yet, you could give it to me! Just kidding! Or am I?

From the looks of it, you can see why having work-life balance is so freaking great!

And I don’t want to come off like this fake person who only tells you about only the good things, the cons of work-life balance.

Nope, I want to keep it real by giving you the good and the bad.

Now that we went over a few pros, it’s time to introduce some of the cons.

Dun. Dun. Duuuunnnnnnnn. Or however, that suspenseful movie song thing goes!

CONS

Okay, cons. Here we go.

First of all, nothing is ever perfectly great. There are always cons to everything except Jesus, right?.

So to be completely honest, I listed a few “bad” things here when it comes to work-life balance.

Let’s go through each one and I’ll tell you why it is a con.

It’s Hard

Work-life balance is a system. A system that I wrote about in Work Life Balance Made Simple.

This means you have to do things a particular way, in a certain amount of time, and most importantly DO THEM CONSISTENTLY!

It’s not like saying, “oh I want work-life balance” and “poof” it fucking happens.

No, it takes work.

It takes action.

It takes commitment.

It means going through the Work Life Balance Made Simple ebook and workbook and actually implementing EVERY SINGLE STEP.

If you’re not serious about changing your life, then don’t even bother trying to establish work-life balance in your life.

You are better keeping up with your “woe is me” routine.

Eye Opening Reasons Why Work Life Balance Is Important

7 Amazing Work Life Balance Benefits To Help You Have Less Stress

Not a Perfect Balance

Just to reiterate what we talked about before work-life balance is not a balancing act.

if you are looking for work-life balance because you want to spend an equal amount of time at work and outside of work, you are better off looking for a unicorn in Antarctica.

Although it is called work-life balance, it is not a balance at all!

Work-life balance is about feelings of enjoyment and achievement.

The more you are able to feel those types of feelings while being a responsible adult, and getting shit done, the more you have work-life balance!

Yeah, yeah, Ree, I hear what you’re saying but I’m not really comprehending, is probably what you’re thinking. So, let me break it down even further by using an amazing example.

Okay, so, if you work 8 hours and let’s say you get a lot of shit done that day.

You go home and spend 4 meaningful hours with your family. I mean y’all are talking, laughing, cooking together, you got help with cleaning up, and now y’all are watching a movie, and playing a board game. You can’t remember the last time you spent with your family and nobody argued.

This is an amazing day, right?

Well, how about this, did you notice that I said that you spent 8 hours at work and 4 hours with your family?

Did you notice that that wasn’t an equal amount of time?

Then does it really matter that you didn’t spend equal time with your family and at work?

Or is what matters most is that you had an amazing day and knocked everything out of the park?

See, as long as you are getting things done, (achieving), and having fun, (enjoyment), then you have work-life balance.

Simple as that!

Not One Size Fits All

You may think because your neighbor or coworker has it all figured out that you can mimic what she does.

Well, try it and let me know how her routine works out for you.

If you want the quick and painless version, I will tell you now that it won’t work!

Work-life balance is not one size fits all. You can not take someone’s method of work-life balance and apply it directly to your life.

It doesn’t work like that!

You have different values, goals, schedules, and priorities than she does.

You need to have a personalized plan that fits your life and that is exactly what you get with Work Life Balance Made Simple

You Can’t Have It All At Once

You may think that because you have work-life balance that you can have it all.

I mean that is true but it comes with a stipulation.

The stipulation is that you can’t have it all at once.

Having work-life balance means you need to prioritize your needs, wants, and tasks. It means you will get the things done that are a high priority but tasks that aren’t probably won’t get done at least right away.

This means that you can get what you need and want most out of life right now but everything that you want will take time!

I mean, even Oprah said, “You can have it all, but you can’t have it all at once.”, and she’s a billionaire.

Looking at the pros and cons of work-life balance still makes work-life balance worth it to me, but I could be biased a bit.

I know you are tired of hearing all about work-life balance and what it is, it’s benefits, why it’s important, and the pros and cons of it, right?

You are ready to find out how to achieve it. Well, you are in luck because the next section, How to Achieve Work-Life Balance in 3 Steps will show you how!

How to Achieve Work Life Balance in 3 steps

You need to achieve work-life balance so that you can have time to do the things you want each and every day.

This means your life will become more enjoyable and you’ll achieve more. But how exactly do you get work-life balance?

post it notes on a white board

Well, all it takes are 3 steps I like to call PPF.

PPF stands for:

Plan

So, let’s start with plan.

The first thing you need to do is plan your goals so you know which direction in your life you are heading.

Next, you have to get all of the tasks and thoughts that are bogging down your brain onto paper.

Now, go through all of those tasks and thoughts that you have and use them to plan your week.

Most importantly, you have to plan time to do what you love.

If you only plan the tasks that you do because you are obligated to do, or because someone told you to do them, then your life is going to continue to feel like you’re on a hamster wheel.

The purpose of work-life balance and the reason behind you figuring out how to get work-life balance is so that you can do the things you want to do.

This way, you can learn to love the life you worked so hard to create.

Prioritize

When you plan your week, you may think, “ok I did it. I’m done.” But, that’s not the case.

The thing you need to figure out is which of those tasks for the day/week are most important.

You have to figure out which tasks can wait until next week, which tasks, you can give to someone else to complete for you, and which tasks can be crossed off because it doesn’t have a deadline!

Prioritizing the tasks on your schedule allows you to see that you don’t have to get everything done right away!

Prioritizing allows you to free up your schedule and fill it with things you want to do.

Focus

Once your schedule is planned and prioritized, it’s time to focus!

The only way you are going to get shit done is to make sure that you are focused on actually getting it done.

You are not scrolling IG or reading every status on FB.

You are not getting sucked down the video hole of youtube.

You are committed to following your schedule and getting tasks done to the best of your ability in the shortest amount of time needed. This way you have the rest of your day to do whatever you want.

You can even take that nap.

By using PPF, planning, prioritizing, and focusing, is how you achieve work-life balance.

These three simple steps can have you following a system that works each time.

A system that allows you to free up time to do what you want every day.

This makes you feel like you have your life in control and will make you feel like your life is the best!

Doesn’t that sound great?

5 Tips and Reminders for Work Life Balance

When breaking down a difficult concept or task, some readers may still feel overwhelmed and unsure of their ability to understand it.

Break down a few best practices on how to best approach the concept, and/or a few reminders about it.

So now you know how to achieve work-life balance, I want to share with you a few tips and reminders so that creating a work-life balance system for you as easy as possible.

(Of course, the easiest way is to get my ebook Work Life Balance Made Simple.)

But I want you to succeed whether you get the ebook or not. I want to make life easier for you. I want to help you no matter what.

So here are 5 Tips and Reminders for Work Life Balance.

Create Systems

Have you ever read the book, How To Fail At Almost Everything and Still Win Big by Scott Adams?

If not, I double-dog dare you to read it.

(By the way, I am daring you because if I say you should read it, there’s a great chance you won’t. Double dog dare you means you have to read it now!)

Well, in this book, Scott talks about how setting goals are good but it’s the systems that you create that allow you to achieve your goals.

A system is an action you repeat to get the results you want (Source).

Make sense?

Probably not so who better to explain than Scott Adams himself. Scott take it away:

“A goal is a specific objective that you either achieve or don’t sometime in the future. A system is something you do on a regular basis that achieves your odds of happiness in the long run. If you do something every day, it’s a system. If you’re waiting to achieve it someday in the future, it’s a goal.”

Systems are the foundation of deep and great work so that you are not making the same mistakes over and over.

By setting up a system, your mind, and body will learn to do things on autopilot.

Therefore, your body can focus on other tasks at hand, meaning you can do things without dread because you won’t have to think about doing it. You will do it because it is part of your system!

Creating systems help to create freedom.

Delegate Tasks

Why is it that you think you can do it all?

You believe that asking for help is a sign of weakness when it is not!

If your schedule is jam-packed with things that need to get done, that hardly ever get done, because you don’t have all the time in the world, then you need to take some of those off of your plate by asking others to do them.

Need to pick up the kids, why not ask a neighbor or your spouse to help you?

Need to complete your work project? Why not ask a coworker to help you since he or she is done with their work.

Need to cook dinner? Why not pay Chipotle to do it for you?

The bottom line is STOP TRYING TO DO IT ALL!

Use your friends, neighbors, spouse, and family to help you out!

There Is No Perfect Work Life Balance

There are so many different work-life balance definitions out there. This makes it hard to even figure out what work-life balance is let alone figure out how you can apply it to your life.

Want to know why there are so many definitions?

That’s because there is no perfect work-life balance.

What one person does in their work-life balance routine may not work for you.

You have different priorities, work obligations, and pretty much different lifestyles, so you cannot copy and paste their routine.

Instead, you have to create a system based on your wants and needs for your life.

Define What Success Means To You

When you take a look around and acknowledge what you have, and what you have accomplished, why is it that you don’t see success?

What does success mean to you?

Does it mean having a nice car, house, and stable career?

Or is it simply having friends and family who love and support you?

A lot of times why you feel like a failure is because you have yet to figure out your definition of success.

You have to stop listening to what everyone wants for you!

You have to figure out what you want and you can do that by defining what success means to you.

I bet that if you take another look at your definition and apply it to you, you are a success!

Guess what? That is all that matters.

Create a Support Network

A lot of times you are so busy doing what you think you have to do to “make it” that you don’t spend time nourishing your relationships.

You let them go by the wayside until you realize you need something and you have no one to call for help.

To stop this from happening, you have to make your relationships, family, friends, your spouse, a priority.

Take time out and nurture them.

Let the people you love know how much you love them and how you are there for them.

Take time to create a support network.

This way when troubles come, you have someone to help uplift you or help you out with a task that you cannot do by yourself.

You were put on this earth to make connections.

No one can live in this crazy life all alone.

You need help every once and awhile.

You need support.
