Yeah yeah, how are self care practices going to change your life? Sounds pretty unbelievable, right?
Well, let me ask you a couple of questions.
Aren’t you tired of feeling like a failure even though on paper you’re technically not?
Aren’t you over chasing the next goal, only to find out once you achieve it, the happiness doesn’t last?
What if I told you you don’t need another degree, nicer car, house, or more money to be happy.
What if I told you these 5 self care practices will change your life and make you the happiest you ever been IF you commit to them.
The best thing about these 5 self care practices besides them changing your life, is that they don’t cost any money or take up a lot of time.
I bet you are!
Let’s get started.
Let’s change your life
Make Time For Yourself
Believe me, I get it, as a mom of three and a business owner, there always seems like there is never enough time for anything!
But you want to know what I learned? (And it’s not that saying that you make time for what you want.) It’s that you are lacking prioritization.
You see, when you prioritize your day, you make a list of the most important things you need to get done that day.
You organize that list from most important to least important.
You do not put everything on that list because when you prioritize you realize you can’t get it all done.
Now repeat after me, I can’t get it all done!
You see, that’s where you fall short.
You’re stuck in this cycle of thinking you have to be a super mom and always have your cape on.
You’re making it harder on yourself!
The more that you focus on getting the most important tasks done each day, and realize you can’t do it all, the more you’ll realize you’ll have time to do what you love.
This one is pretty self-explanatory.
You know that to live a healthy long life, you need to exercise and that’s a fact!
Exercising helps you get oxygen and nutrients to your tissues. This helps your cardiovascular system work better.
Exercising also helps to:
- Ward off disease
- Decrease depression
- Improve skin health
- Increase your energy levels
- Increase your happiness
- Improve your brain health and memory
- Help you relax and improve your sleep quality
Exercise affects your mental and physical health and literally makes you a happier, healthier, person.
Practice Gratitude Everyday
Have you ever sat down and thought about all the things you are grateful for?
How did you feel after?
Relieved and less stressed, right?
Well, why not make that part of your everyday routine?
No matter how bad your day is, if you want to feel better immediately, you should write down at least 5 things you are grateful for!
Practicing gratitude has so many great benefits that you don’t want to miss out on! (This is why it’s one of the best self care practices that will change your life.)
Practicing gratitude allows you to have :
- Positive emotions
- Feel more alive
- Sleep better
- Have more compassion
- Improve your self-esteem
- Improve your physical health
- Have a stronger immune system.
Plus, it’s scientifically proven that when you are practicing gratitude, you cannot feel any other negative emotion.
So if you don’t want to be angry, mad, sad, stressed, or worried at any particular moment in your life, start thinking and focusing on what you are truly grateful for.
Live In The Moment
Everywhere you go you are probably hearing how important it is to be mindful. But what exactly is mindful, right?
Well, simply put, mindfulness is being present in the moment.
I know it’s something you rarely do because you are ALWAYS so busy and ALWAYS two steps ahead.
When what you should be doing instead of planning every moment of the day, is being mindful. You should be enjoying the moment you’re creating right now.
Instead, you are thinking about the laundry you need to do, the work that you need to complete, or how you need to meet up with friends.
By practicing mindfulness, you allow yourself to enjoy the moment right now.
Mindfulness, allows you to calm your mind, to stop stressing about the future, and it helps you to stop being worried about the past.
Being mindful allows you to be happy.
Create Your Happy File
This is definitely my favorite self care practice and I know that it will change your life.
With so much going on in the world, as well as in your personal life, a happy file is essential! So, what exactly is a happy file?
A happy file is a digital document full of texts, memes, links to podcasts, YouTube videos, emails, songs, books, quotes, anything that brings a smile to your face.
A happy file is perfect for when you’re down and you can’t get yourself out of a funk.
When you pull out your “handy dandy” happy file, you literally lift your mood by going through the list and watching the videos, listening to the music, or reading the texts, emails, etc, that make you happy or laugh.
Having a happy file, helps you to not wallow in your emotions. Remember it is okay to feel your emotions and go through the pain, but it is unhealthy to sit in them for far too long.
