Self Care During A Pandemic? How is That Possible?

So you wake up feeling like the world is on your shoulders.

Now, since your kids are homeschooling and you are working from home, you have to cook at least three freaking meals a day, clean up, and argue with kids about what they will or not eat.

You are super frustrated and you keep gaining weight because you are eating the kids’ scraps. You are trying your best to not lose the little bit of sanity you have left.

Ugh! Crap! You have to get ready to work.

Work is completely different now. You basically sit in front of a screen and try to make sure your kids are somewhat quiet.

You tuck off to the bathroom and shut the door softly so the kids won’t hear you. You begin to cry.

It’s been forever since you were able to just hang out with friends or see your coworkers in person.

You miss going to a restaurant or a store and be able to talk freely with strangers. Now, if you even cough in public people look at you as if you are a pariah.

You quickly glance at your watch and notice the time. You have a Zoom meeting in 15 minutes.

You sigh.

You are so over this new normal.

You are so freaking stressed out not only because of all your responsibilities but because this pandemic makes everything so incredibly uncertain.

You wish you could calm down, catch your breath, or even just take some time to take care of you.

Ahhh…that’s it… take care of you.

What’s that thing you use to try to do before this COVID-19 happened, self care, right?

But how is it possible now?

How can you learn how to practice self care during a pandemic?

That seems nearly impossible since you can’t even put your underwear on without someone being right there!

You just wish you had time to do something for you.

Well, it’s time to stop wishing because I got you!

Being able to practice self care during a pandemic is not a luxury but a necessity and I’m going to show you how in a way that is truly unique and easy.

The Real Definition of Self Care

Self care seems to be all about taking a bath, getting a facial, or getting dressed up.

But with this got dang pandemic going on how in the heck can you do that?

1. You’re surrounded by people ALL THE TIME NOW

2. Going out in a pandemic is not the same AT ALL.

In fact, self care can be a tricky thing, but only because the media shows you that self care is all about taking bubble baths, getting facials, and going shopping, when it is so much more than that.

In fact, according to the World Health Organization, self care is,

The ability to promote health, prevent disease, maintain health, and to cope with illness and disability it also encompasses hygiene, nutrition, lifestyle, environmental factors, socioeconomic factors, seeking professional health care services when needed and so much more.

Yes, I know, I know that seems like a long and comprehensive definition that still leaves you going, huh? Because I did the same thing.

So to sum it up, the definition of self care is anything that you do deliberately to take care of your health and helps you find the meaning in life, and supports your growth.

Self care helps you move forward in life and remedies situations.  It does not distract you from them.

But the thing you have to know is that there are different types of self care, which many people don’t.
