Well, I am here to tell you that it is possible.

How do I know?

Well, I am a mom of 3 who worked and went to school full-time. Now I am a stay at home mom because daycare is so freakin expensive, but that’s another story!

My family of 5 is living off of one income and to top it all off, I’m starting a business too!

My time is limited.

My money is limited.

And my sanity is limited.

Getting healthy and staying healthy is one of my top priorities but because of all of the shenanigans around me, it can be hard!

Which is why I need all of the lazy, easy-peasy, lemon squeezy, hacks, tips, and tricks to getting healthy and staying healthy!

What is Getting Healthy and Staying Healthy?

get healthy stay healthy pin for pinterestGetting healthy and staying healthy is about making a lifestyle change.

It’s about making better choices for yourself.  Whether it’s better choices for your mental wellness, physical wellbeing, social relationships, and/or spirit.

I don’t want you to look at getting healthy and staying healthy as this one and done thing.

Getting healthy and staying healthy is not a fad diet where you lose weight and then gain it all back.

It is not something that can be done overnight or even in a few weeks.

You are making a change for an extended period.

Getting healthy and staying healthy is a lifestyle change which requires a change in your mindset to kick things off.

It also requires a plan of success and the ability to set small, realistic, SMART goals.

Setting Small Goals for Success

Setting SMART goals helps you to attain success without being overwhelmed.

SMART stands for (Source):

  • S-specific
  • M-measurable
  • A-attainable
  • R-realistic
  • T-timely

For example, setting a SMART small goal could be drinking your cup of coffee black.  Which means no more cream or sugar in your coffee.

Black coffee has 0 calories but you still get all of the benefits of drinking coffee. By drinking your coffee black, you will save between 75-100 calories per cup!

If it is too much to go black right away, an even smaller goal could be switching to almond milk and stevia in your coffee.

Setting small goals like the ones mentioned above, will help to keep you motivated and on the path to success.

Small SMART goals won’t make you feel overwhelmed and will help you to see changes.  These changes will keep you optimistic so that you don’t give up.

The Right Mindset

Getting healthy and staying healthy is no easy feat.  It requires a mindset or should I say a mind-shift. You have to believe that you can do this and you will do this.

You have to believe that even though that apple may not taste as good as those chips, that apple will provide more sustainable and renewable energy for your body.

You have to realize that taking the stairs instead of the elevator will help you to beat or prevent heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and some cancers!

Instead of eating fried chicken all the time, you have to switch to a healthier way of making chicken like baked or rotisserie.

Small switches like this will help lower your fat content and calories intake but still get all of the essential amino acids, nutrients, and vitamins.

Overall, it takes more than 2 months, 66 days, if you want to be exact, for a new habit to become second nature. (Source)

Tips for Success in Getting Healthy and Staying Healthy

If you are not exactly sure what you need to do to get healthy and stay healthy or you are not sure of your health goals, here are a few tips to get you started.

These tips are for the mind, body, and spirit.  So you will get a well-rounded view of getting healthy and staying healthy.

Tips for Getting Your Mind Healthy

  • Work-Life Balance Does Not Exist

First thing first, realize that there is no such thing as work-life balance.  It is not going to happen, ever!

Now, don’t be sad about it because there is such a thing as prioritization or work life prioritization.

On certain days when you have a deadline, a project due, or etc, work may need to come first before family, friends, and hobbies.

Other days, if your kids are sick, you need a mental health day, you are sick, have a family emergency, etc then guess what, your life comes first!

What I am trying to get it here is to stop searching for something that doesn’t exist!

A lot of what you hear in the news on how to get the perfect work-life balance is a piece of crap!

You can’t control outside forces!  So, when you think you spent too much time at work because you have a deadline, don’t beat yourself up!

Realize that this is a time that you have to prioritize work first so that you can continue to pay for your life.

Or if your child is sick and you can’t work as hard as you would like, don’t criticize yourself or say you are a bad parent. This is the time where you have to prioritize your child because he or she needs you.

Overall, what I want you to learn is not to overwhelm or stress yourself out, when you feel like you aren’t where you should be or doing what you believe you should be doing.

Stop believing in work-life balance and believe in work-life prioritization. This will help to reduce your stress levels which will help you to become healthier.

Well, I am here to say that if you do not take a break you will be overwhelmed and die!  I’m just kidding about the dying part. But, you will be overwhelmed, stressed out, and feeling depressed.
